The Inland Water Wisdom Adventure is a fun, story-led water safety experience designed to help children understand rivers, canals and ponds before they ever get close to them.
Through games, observation challenges and explorer missions, children learn how to recognise different types of inland water and understand the hidden dangers they may not notice at first.
Rather than focusing on what to do after an accident, this adventure helps children build the most important safety skill of all: awareness.
What Children Will Experience
During the adventure, children become Water Wise Explorers and take part in a series of missions that guide them through three common inland water environments:
The Rushing River
Children learn how moving water behaves around rocks, branches and bends in the river. The Silent Canal
They discover why canals may look calm but often have steep sides and very few ways to climb out.Hidden Ponds and Wetlands
Children explore how ponds can appear shallow but quickly become muddy and deep beneath the surface. Each mission includes movement games, observation challenges and simple decision-making activities that help children practise noticing important safety clues in their surroundings.
Skills Children Learn
Throughout the adventure children develop:
• Observation skills
• Risk awareness
• Environmental understanding
• Decision-making around water
• Confidence to make safe choicesThey also learn the Water Wisdom safety phrase:
Stop. Look. Think. Stay Safe.
A Layered Approach to Safety
While the focus is always on prevention and safe choices, children are also taught a simple protective message:
If you ever fall into water accidentally, float on your back and call for help.
What Children Take Home
Each child receives a Water Wisdom mission card to help them remember what they learned and to continue conversations about water safety at home.
