Why I named it "Orca" – A symbol of strength, confidence, and care

Celebrating National Mammal Week (starting 22nd April) with a story close to my heart
When I created the Orca Swim Trainer, it wasn’t just about designing a flotation device. It was about designing a feeling — a sense of strength, calm, confidence, and progression. And as we celebrate National Mammal Week, I thought it was the perfect moment to share why the Orca became the heart of my vision.
The orca, also known as the killer whale, is one of the most awe-inspiring mammals on the planet. With its striking black-and-white appearance and graceful movements, it commands attention. But it’s not just their power that makes orcas special — it’s their nature.

Here’s why I chose the Orca to represent the kind of swimmers I want to raise — and how the Orca Swim Trainer reflects these same traits.
1. Strength and confidence in the water
Orcas glide effortlessly through the sea, capable of travelling vast distances and navigating even the toughest environments. They are bold, quick, and powerful — but they don’t rush. They move with purpose.
This is exactly what I want for the children I teach.
The Orca Swim Trainer supports each child in building true swimming strength, not just surface-level ability. With 9 removable float pads, children grow stronger bit by bit, developing real core control, balance, and independence. No pushing, no panic — just progress at their pace, just like a young orca calf in training.
2. Gentle guidance, not pressure
Orcas are incredibly nurturing. They live in family pods where calves are protected and taught through connection and play. There’s no forcing — only guiding, modelling, and allowing time for learning.
This gentle and respectful approach is at the heart of how I teach swimming.
When a child wears the Orca Swim Trainer, they’re not being “held up” or forced to perform — they’re being given space to explore, while still feeling secure. It’s a tool that encourages trust in the water and a sense of "I can do this" – without fear.
3. Adaptable and curious – like our swimmers
Orcas live in every ocean, from the freezing Arctic to warmer tropical seas. They adapt to their surroundings, and they thrive wherever they go.
Likewise, no two children learn to swim in the same way. Some need extra safety, some crave independence, and some simply need time to find their rhythm. The Orca Swim Trainer adapts to each unique swimmer, supporting their confidence through every stage of learning.
What Orcas teach us about raising swimmers
As a parent, you want your child to be safe — but you also want them to shine. You want them to feel capable, proud, and confident in their own skin (and in this case, their own splashy little swimsuits!).
That’s why the Orca is such a powerful symbol. It reminds us that swimming is not just about ticking boxes. It’s about building lifelong confidence, emotional strength, and physical skill — with patience, support, and care.
The Orca Swim Trainer isn’t just a floatation aid - it’s a bridge between fear and freedom. A symbol of resilience and readiness. A nod to nature — and to the incredible potential inside every child.
Final Thoughts
This National Mammal Week, let’s celebrate the orca — not only for its beauty and strength, but for the message it carries. That when we are supported, we grow strong. When we feel safe, we explore. And when we are guided gently, we thrive.
Here’s to raising water-wise, courageous swimmers — one Orca at a time.
